About this Display

May is Asian Pacific American Heritage month! This month was officially designated in 1992, when Congress voted to extend Asian Pacific Heritage Week (inaugurated in 1977) to encompass the month of May. This month was chosen to commemorate two significant anniversaries in Asian Pacific American history - the anniversary of the first Japanese immigration to the United States (7 May 1843) and the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad (10 May 1869) of which the majority of workers were Chinese immigrants.

Join us in celebrating the nations and cultures from this region of the world. View the titles on display in the "Featured Titles" list on the left.
