Gwen Ifill (1955-2016) was a model of intellectual curiosity and truth seeking. Those traits are what inspired this annual event aimed at bringing together industry experts for an eye-opening and dynamic discussion on the important issues of our time.
The Gwen Ifill College of Media, Arts, and Humanities Hosted the First Annual Ifill Forum on Saturday, October 19, 2019. The Ifill Forum carries on Gwen Ifill’s legacy as a ground-breaking Black woman journalist by bringing together important national voices for a public conversation on a key question of the day. In addition, the Gwen Ifill Next Generation Award is presented at the event.
This year's keynote speaker is nationally known expert in women’s health and New York Times Bestselling author Dr. Sharon Malone, who will be honored with the Gwen Ifill Next Generation Award — presented to an individual who embodies Gwen Ifill's commitment to professional excellence, mentoring, and the public good. Dr. Malones is a DC-based OB/GYN and Certified Menopause Practitioner presenting her keynote speech "Grown Woman’s Talk: Taking Ownership of One’s Healthcare"
Dr. Sharon Malone will engage in a moderated discussion with members of the Simmons community, followed by audience Q&A. Following the event, Ifill College will host Dr. Malone for a book signing of her book "Grown Woman Talk: Your Guide to Getting and Staying Healthy" (Crown Publishing Group, 2024). The first 100 people to register for the event will receive a free copy of this book.
Dr. Malone's recent publication is a practical guide to aging and health for women who have felt ignored or marginalized by the medical profession. Part medical handbook, part memoir, and part sister-girl cheerleader, this book is filled with useful resources and real-life stories of victory and defeat. It not only highlights the current data around women’s health issues, but it also places that data in a helpful context.
Hosted by the Gwen Ifill School of Media, Humanities and Social Sciences in collaboration with the School of Nursing and School of Sciences and Health Professions
This event is free, open to the public, and registration is required.
This event takes place at Simmons University - 300 The Fenway | Boston, MA 02215
