A majority of our physical book collection- The Main Collection - are located in the Lower Level of the library and can be accessed by the stairs or the elevator that are located by the Library Reading Room. Our collection -including eBooks- is completely searchable through our Online Library Catalog.
A majority of our books are shelved using Library of Congress Call Numbers.
How To Read A Call Number
- Read the first line in alphabetical order (A, B, BF, C, ... LA, LB, LC, M)
- Read the second line as a whole number: 1, 3, 45, 100, 101, 1000 (If this number includes a period, read the number as a decimal: 10.5)
- Read the third line in combination. First, read the letter alphabetically. Then, read the number as a decimal. Some call numbers have 2 or more letter-number lines.
- The last line is a publication date, read it in chronological order: 1989, 2010, 2016
Dewey Decimal
We have a very small section of children's books that have Dewey Decimal call numbers instead of LCC. For these books there are no letters and they are in numerical order on the shelves.
